From 1961 until his retirement in 1974, Mr. McCain was the caretaker and repairman for all the clocks on the inside and the exterior of the Carroll County Courthouse in Delphi. At the same time he also owned and operated Land Mobile Radio Service in Delphi. McCain & Son Jewelers in Delphi from 1934 until 1961. McCain joined his father in the Jewelry business while he was a boy, and owned and operated the L.R. On December 31, 1935, he was married in Delphi to Roseland Amm, and she survives. Born September 5, 1908, in Delphi, Indiana, he was the son of Luther R. Elizabeth Healthcare Center, Delphi, where he had been a resident six days. McCain, 80, of Route 1, Delphi, a descendant of one of the early settler families in Carroll County, departed this life at 10:45 a.m. Entombment will be in Southern Memorial Mausoleum at Biloxi, MS under the direction of Parker Mortuary.Mr. Survivors include his brother, Bunny Newton and wife Jane of Joplin several nieces and nephews including Kelly Newton and wife Marilyn, their daughters Sarah, Jennifer and Lucy of Fort Smith, AR. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Marguerite Strait Newton, two brothers and a sister. Following his retirement from the jewelry business, he became a real estate developer in Mississippi. He was a member of the Masonic lodge, Scottish Rite Bodies and Shrine Temple in McAlester. He worked in the family jewelry business for many years, operating the store in McAlester.
Army veteran he handled ordinance and bomb disposal and served overseas in both World War II and the Korean War. A 1937 graduate of McAlester High School, he received his Bachelor of Science from University of Oklahoma at Norman in 1941 and studied at the School of Horology at Bradley University in Peoria, IL. Born Januin McAlester, OK, he was the son of the late George H. on Sunday, Jat Freeman Hospital West in Joplin after an illness of several months. Newton, age 86 of Joplin, passed away at 2:41 p.m. Entombment will be in Southern Memorial Mausoleum at Biloxi, MS under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
